A New Kind of Science is the title of a book published in the 80s by Stephen Wolfram which elaborates on his systematic study of many class of cellular automata. The book claims that cellular automata could enable a new approach to science based upon the exploration of these different types of algorithms and how they might correspond to patterns seen in nature.
